Dental bridges are great options for patients who have lost one or more teeth due to tooth decay, gum disease, or injury. Bridges are especially attractive options for people who are unable or uninterested in getting dental implants. Because dental bridges can be created and used in a variety of ways, Dr. Willis and her team at Spruce Roots Family Dentistry are confident that they can help you get your smile back.
You shouldn’t have to be afraid to show off your smile. We know how difficult everyday activities like eating, talking, and smiling are when some of your teeth are missing. That’s why we are dedicated to providing our patients with convenient ways to replace teeth that are missing.
Types of Dental Bridges
Dental bridges can be made out of a variety of materials and can be implemented in many ways.
Dental bridges can be made out of:
- Gold
- Porcelain-fused-to-zirconia
- Porcelain fused to gold
- All-ceramic
Because porcelain bridges can be matched to the shade of your existing teeth, are strong, and look very natural, most of our patients prefer porcelain bridges. However, Dr. Willis and her office staff are always available to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of choosing one material over another.
How Do Dental Bridges Work?
Most bridges include two crowns or retainers and a pontic (a false tooth or teeth). The crowns are placed onto existing teeth on either side of the missing tooth to keep the bridge in place and are cemented or bonded in. The pontic is connected to the crowns to fill the missing space.
These dental bridges will keep your other teeth from shifting, will make eating and talking easier, and will work to retain your face shape.
